In-Between Winery

2023 SPRING

The project explores spatial formation through the manipulation of both the elevated plane and the ground plane.

Through a process of pushing and pulling, these planes generate a sequence of spaces that respond to the varied lighting requirements of winemaking—providing controlled darkness for storage and generous daylight for tasting and consumption. The same operations are extended to create integrated stairs and built-in furniture, reinforcing spatial continuity.

Located in a desert landscape, the winery contrasts the arid, oppressive heat of the exterior with a cool, sheltered interior space in between the planes. This condition is further emphasized through a visual juxtaposition between shifting sands and the solidity of the structure.
